We need to change the OVMS logo, to better reflect the vehicle independence. The existing logo is too much Tesla. Felix has kindly prepared a couple of options for us, attached below. My preference is for the one with the car outline (even though it retains a hint of Tesla), as it emphasizes the vehicle comms aspect. This is quite urgent, as the Teslive people are pushing for artwork. What do you guys/gals think? Regards, Mark

Hi all, I'd like to resurrect an old conversation. As we know, the current PIC is quickly running out of resources and maybe it's time to switch to a better platform. Two CAN buses are now desirable too. A microSD slot and direct USB connectivity wouldn't hurt either. I will probably have to design a similar hardware for myself, so I'd like to contribute to the OVMS by sharing the HW platform if you want; no strings attached of course, if you decide that there's no need for the upgrade, I'll keep on working on my project by myself! :) That said, I'd like to throw a few ideas to the table. - MCU: I'd like to use an STM32 micro. They seem to be emerging as the standard choice for diy ARM projects, and this offers a few interesting opportunities: -Programming it in c/c++ with the manufacturer CMSIS standard libraries (boring) -Programming it with the mbed.org SDK. Unfortunately no dev boards are available with dual CAN bus, but it will be easy to move to the correct micro of the same series once most of the software is ironed out on a dev board like the https://mbed.org/platforms/ST-Nucleo-F302R8/ -Programming it with an RTOS. NuttX would be my choice, as it's the one used in the Ardupilot Pixhawk platform, and I'd like to learn it. This would mean a steeper starting curve, but a lot of flexibility later as a lot of stuff is handled on the OS level (network stacks, SD card & filesystems, multitasking...). FreeRTOS is a nice option too. I'd like to use the STM32F405RG as it's the most similar to the one found on the Pixhawk, but of course I'm biased because of that, and that micro is quite overkill for the task. We can of course use a lower specced part and lose some RTOS fuctionality as long as it has 2 CAN buses. - MODEM: I have no experience in this field; is the SIM908 still a good choice or does anyone think that we should try new platforms? I like this, but I don't know if the price puts it out of budget: http://www.telit.com/telit/Pulsar/en_US.Store.display.1001./ge864-gps On the bright side, it can be programmed in python, so we can offload some of the work to the modem. This *could* allow us to free some space on the PIC, and keep that platform without changing MCU.. - Enclosure: I think that, even with the new MCU, we can still fit the old enclosure. Is that ok, or should we think about a more automotive-friendly one? Maybe waterproof for the twizy? And that's it. I think that the core SW developers should voice their opinion, as there is a lot of work to be done on that front. A huge problem will be keeping backwards compatibility to add features for the v2 users, so we should discuss about this too. Regards MG

Building with free C18 compiler

Have I missed a decision to no longer support the free C18 compiler - or has it been like that for ages? I am trying to fix an issue in the iMiev code, but can no longer build 2.6.5 due to needing the full compiler and no way am I paying £300 for it. Matt Beard

C2DM is deprecated, no new sign-ups

I've got my own OVMS server going. However, I wasn't seeing notifications on my phone (Android) since moving away from tmc.openvehicles.com. Looking at the ovms_server.pl code it appears that ovms_server.conf requires this section: [c2dm] email=<email> password=<password> accounttype=<unknown> [This "c2dm" section, along with the "server", "master", and "log" sections are undocumented in the docs/HOWTO.server.txt file.] Okay, so it would seem that I need to set-up a C2DM account with Google and put that info into the conf file. But, Google has deprecated C2DM in favour of Google Cloud Messaging (GCM), and Google is not granting any new C2DM accounts... http://developer.android.com/google/gcm/c2dm.html Is the C2DM account used by tmc.openvehicles.com a generic account that can be used by other OVMS servers? I suspect that it is a private account. If so, then push notifications for Android users on independent servers will necessarily require a transition to GCM. Actually, on that topic (almost) - we should discuss how OVMS users might checkin (or even auto-checkin) to OCM. That would help us track which locations people are using and the quality of their experience there. Are there any recent thoughts on this from the OVMS side? Currently there are no third party apps writing to the OCM API. Doing so currently requires at least authentication (via the web UI) - this is also the method used by the OCM mobile apps. There is the possibility of a quicker/simple login to OCM via third party apps by way of a security code emailed to the user (who would either be new to OCM or an existing user). Not massively secure (there are holes in the approach) but it would make it easy for third party apps to quickly authenticate. Alternatively we can provide URLs which OVMS users would open in a browser/webview which go on to use the standard mobile app or site. This is the easiest for OVMS apps to implement. Depends on what integration people would like to see? Leaf EV CAN messages

Hi All- Over the last few days a few of us on the mynissanleaf forum have been working on getting the TCU (telematics module) CAN messages for the various modes of operation (remote CC, status, charge). Here's what we know now: To wake up the VCM (Main controller), the TCU sends a msgID of 68C on the EV CAN bus with one byte of 00. On 2013 and newer models wake up solely on the CAN message. For 2011 or 2012 models the TCU will bring a logic line high that connects to the VCM briefly as well to wake it up. Page 64 of the "AV" section of the 2012 service manual shows the pinout of the TCU. You will need to splice into Pin 11 (light green? wire) on the large connector going to the TCU and make an appropriate circuit to pull it high briefly when the OVMS module sends the 68C message. When doing non "remote charge" testing you might be able to hit the charge override button (which uses another line to wake the VCM) then send 68C. I think that might work for testing. :-) Once the VCM is awake it looks to the TCU status message to see what's up. The status message has a msgID of 56E and the first byte determines the status (the 6 other bytes are FF). The 56E message repeats every 100ms whenever the EV CAN bus is active. The various modes are: hex binary state 46 01000110 status 86 10000110 idle 4E 01001110 cc on 56 01010110 cc off 66 01100111 remote charge That's all we have so far. Haven't tried pulling the TCU yet and duplicating it's messages but I'm reasonably confident this is all there is to it as far as remote activation. New cables just arrived, with strange pinout

I just got a shipment of these custom cables. Any prizes for guessing the purpose? Mark. DB9-F to Left-Hand right-angle J1962-M cable with pinout B, as below Pinout B J1962-M DB9-F Signal 4 3 Chassis/Power GND 6 5 CAN-H (alternate CAN) 14 4 CAN-L (alternate CAN) 13 7 CAN-H (primary CAN) 12 2 CAN-L (primary CAN) 16 9 +12V Vehicle Power J1962 end should be MALE plug with right angle cable. DB9 end should be FEMALE. Both ends should be enclosed in shells, and cable should be 1metre in length.

OVMS v2 startup weirdness

Hi all I just got my OVMS v2 module, with GeoSIM. I registered the SIM online, then tried to putting it into the OVMS SIM socket. I provisioned the module via the SMS provisioning page (using the +44 number). However, the board seems to be looping while trying to start up. The board blinks its version OK (2.6.5), then starts trying to connect. I see 10 green blinks for a few iterations. Then the board blinks 6 green for about a minute. Then both lights come on solid for about 15-20 seconds. Then a pause, then six blinks. Repeat until the end of time. This 6 blinks for a minute, solid on for 15-20 seconds, then 6 blinks loop never ends. What could be going on? I tried connecting to the diag port via serial (115k 8n1 none) and am getting nothing. I tried with hardware flow control on as well. Still nothing. I tried reflashing the board via PICkit2 and redoing the provisioning. Still no good. Thanks! -Jeff

v2 PCB traces

Hello, Is there a file available with the copper trace layout of the v2 PC board? Is see the schematic files in the GIT repository under vehicle/Car Module/v2-base/, but nothing about the physical hardware layout. Specifically I'm looking for a safe spot to drill a couple of holes in the PCB without damaging the circuit. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Arthur Hebert

I have been doing some aerodynamic clean up improvement tests recently and have achieved a 29% increase in miles per kwh at 70 mph ( 234 watt hours per mile) without much difficulty. I am also helping Mike Schooling at Indra.co.uk in an effort to create an additional 50% retr fittable capacity battery pack for a Gen 1 Leaf, almost all of which will go under the boot (trunk) floor. I don't have access to a garage/workshop but would come and join you if you still want to do some testing.
