OVMS Tutorial Videos

I’ve been working on some videos to better illustrate how to use OVMS in different scenarios Something to supplement the written documentation, in a more tutorial and example based approach. Passing of Steve Casner

It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing of Steve Casner. Steve died in his sleep a few days ago on July 4th, losing his fight to cancer. After discussions online, I was fortunate to first meet Steve at the Tesla Motors Club event in San Jose, back in 2013. We jokingly called ourselves ’the old timers’ back then, as original Tesla Roadster owners. I loved to hear Steve’s stories about the early days with Tesla and see his collection of mementos from that time. In the picture below, Steve is on the left, and the award we are holding is the Car Of The Year award for Tesla Model S. Over the years, Steve became a core contributor to the OVMS v3 code, and was instrumental in so many fundamental functions. Every time anyone, anywhere, issues a command to an OVMS module it is Steve’s code that will process it. Over the years he made more than 300 code contributions to the project, and provided so much more with his thoughtful advise and experience. He lives on with us all through this work, and I know that I for one will always think of him. RIP Steve. Regards, Mark

SWCAN

Now, the Bolt EV people are asking for this. In general, it seems that we can do a simple board in the same way as the K-Line was done. Use the two available GPIOs (one for INT and the other CS). Then the GPIOs on the MCP2515 to control the transceiver mode. Expose the single SWCAN pin on the DB9, in the same way as K-Line does it. GND (for SWCAN-low) is already available there. Anybody see any problems with that approach? I am happy to arrange the hardware, given sufficient interest, but have almost no way of testing (as none of the cars I have access to have SWCAN). Note that the openvehicles.com server is changing IP address: 175.45.17.222 -> 14.198.177.61 This should all be handled by DNS, so no changes needed on the modules. The old 175.45.17.222 address will be decommissioned in a few days time. Regards, Mark.

I resolved this by swapping out the custom db9 adapter cable I have been using for the last several years. I buzzed it out on the bench and it seems to still have 12V, GND, and can high and low but somehow it doesn't work anymore. It's a bit puzzling as the cable I swapped in looks extremely similar... Here's a picture of what I took out. Craig

Hi, does anyone have, or is it possible to publish on the repo, editable pcb files either for Eagle, Kicad or Altium. Having the circuit schematics available would be really useful to our project. Crash and wifi problem

I have many problem with my new OVMS (OVMS WIFI BLE BT cores=2 rev=ESP32/3; MODEM SIM7600) Now i use the the following fw (3.3.002-31-g3604f462) The crash logs i attached. If i restart the network from my MAC with cable, is see (photo attached) - Warning: cellulars: Cannot restart, as modem driver is not loaded and i get a following for the wi-f many timei: - wifi: bcn_timeout, ap_probe_send_start -- Best wishes: Tamás Kovács

GPS flatbed alerts from military jamming/spoofing?

I've had no GPS false alerts since Craig added the NMEA checksum validation and I fixed the VW e-Up state detection. That is, until war on Ukraine began. Since then, I've had multiple alerts, mostly late night. I wouldn't have thought military GPS jamming or spoofing would have an effect with that range, the next war region is ~ 1.200 km from here. I've added some more logging to see if we can detect and filter this. Reduced log from the latest event below. HDOP jumps from 1.8 (good) to 5.6 (bad), but only after the alert has been triggered. Should we generally scale the alarm threshold by HDOP (if available)?
