Netmanager priority issue solved

TL;DR: you need to pull my latest esp-idf changes. I've finally found & solved the strange priority changes for our netmanager task (i.e. being raised suddenly from origin 5 to 18/22): the bug was in the esp-idf posix threads mutex implementation. I had suspected the mutex priority inheritance for a while, so added a way to retrieve the internal mutex hold count for our task list. Using this I noticed the hold count would always & only raise by 2 whenever any kind of mongoose connection was closed. That lead me to checking the thread concurrency protection for mongoose mbufs, because every mongoose connection has two mbufs associated (rx & tx), each having a posix mutex. The bug was: posix mutexes were deleted after locking (taking) them. FreeRTOS mutexes must not be deleted while being taken, that breaks the priority inheritance (more precisely the disinheritance), with the visible effect being the mutex hold count not returning to zero. As a side effect, this may also solve the strange event task starvations (hope so…). I was investigating this as I suspected some busy loop in the netmanager context. With the netman running at prio 22, that would effectively block almost all other processing including the timer service. I've found & fixed one potential busy loop trigger in the netman that would have been caused by the netman task still running while all interfaces had been lost -- not sure if that could happen, but it would explain the effects. Fiat500e Quirks

Howdy there, I recently got an OVMS set up with my Fiat 500e and was happy to see that it works, but I noticed noticed a few oddities. The first one is that it uses Valet Mode (CommandActivateValet) for preconditioning instead of CommandClimateControl: https://github.com/openvehicles/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3/blob/bd192… <https://github.com/openvehicles/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3/blob/bd192…> Is there a downside to changing the code to where it uses Climate Control instead? It seems like that would fit better with the intended functionality. The other is that it seems to rapidly generate spurious charging / not charging events, which en masse seems to make the websocket connection on the web server time out. I can put together a pull request to try to fix these issues, but was wondering if there are any thoughts on these two things before getting started. There's also no pictures of the Fiat on the iOS App, but I assume that's because the last release of the iOS App predates support. Thanks, William Reading

IOS app reported GSM signal strength

I've noticed for awhile but never asked the question; why does the IOS app report wifi signal strength when I'm connected to wifi as gsm signal strength? I would expect gsm to always be gsm and maybe wifi would also be shown (and identified as such) when present. Note that I run my modules in wifi client-only mode. Craig

4G Modem Module *requires* 3.3 firmware

Just a reminder note to people upgrading existing v3.1 and v3.2 OVMS to 4G: You will need to install the v3.3 firmware (currently version 3.3.001) to support the new 4G modem option. That version is pre-installed on all new v3.3 kits, but not yet released to 'main' release level for everyone. The solution is to set the release level to 'edge', and you will see the v3.3 firmware available for install. You can set back to 'main' after install.

For the 4G modem options we need to go through FCC, CE, and ROHS certification. Minimising/eliminating the changes to the main board simplifies this (and brings down the exorbitant costs) but if there is anything urgent / necessary, now is the time to do it. The goal here is to maintain 100% compatibility with existing OVMS main boards, to keep this is a simple and relatively cheap upgrade of the modem board. So far, I have come up with this minimal list: Main board v3.3: Improve soldering of micro USB port. Bigger solder pads, and more solder to secure it better. Modem board v1.3: Add support for SIM7600 module. Modem board v1.3: Fix support for DTR sleep/awake support. Is there anything else required for this update? Regards, Mark.

ssh documentation

Currently the documentation says: https://docs.openvehicles.com/en/latest/userguide/console.html With OpenSSH version 6.6 (or later), cipher aes128-cbc has been disabled by default and needs to be enabled manually but this does not appear to be needed with the version of wolfssh we're currently using. My FreeBSD desktop has OpenSSH 7.9p1 in the base system and "/usr/bin/ssh -F /dev/null ovms-z.alameda.xse.com" (i.e. no config file) works fine. Meanwhile, OpenSSH 8.8 (which I've been using via the ports system since October) disables ssh-rsa by default so I had to add something simlar to: Host ovmsname.local HostkeyAlgorithms +ssh-rsa PubkeyAcceptedAlgorithms +ssh-rsa to my .ssh/config. If someone would confirm my understanding of the current state is correct, I'd be happy to generate a PR to update the doc. Craig

Can anyone tell what the timing units are in for the polling? I.e. { vcutx, vcurx, VEHICLE_POLL_TYPE_OBDIIEXTENDED, vcuspeed, { 0, 0, 1, 30 }, 0, ISOTP_STD }, Is that seconds? Milliseconds? Regards Shane

Trouble building the documentation

I saw a couple of ssh related changes I wanted to make and tried building the docs for the first time in a long time. sphinx chews it, log appended. How to reset the sshd server key?

I was configuring a new module and I must have fat-fingered the zip pw for config backup (reminder to self: always leave it empty so the module pw is used). I wanted the new module to have a different sshd server key but couldn't figure out how to do it. I tried things like: config rm ssh.server key but couldn't get "config list ssh.info" to change. Is there a way to do it? If not, is it hard to add? I got around this painfully: - backup current config - module factory reset - follow the setup process, sshd server key generated along the way - backup the new config - unpack the original and new configs - copy ssh.info and ssh.server from the old to the new config - zip it, copy back to module, and restore Prior to this method-of-last-resort I tried "config list ssh.server 0A132..." but the ssh interface truncates the ~2K string of hex digits.
