Yes, I think the app side problem can be resolved by means of a background behavior (i don't know ios architecture but I've found an article here: http://www.techotopia.com/index.php/IOS_7_Multitasking,_Background_Transfer… stating that an ios app can have a background behavior. See remote notifications, i think it fits). For the privacy concerns, maybe would be easy to collect responses (every app would send a go/nogo instead of their position) but this would be a two way communications (every app send the go/nogo) and one of them will send the "stop" to the car if all of the responses are "nogo". 1) When the car is starting a notification will "wake" the app (or activate a background behavior). The app then fetch the car position and the device position, thus making the decision (go/nogo). 2) The app send the results to the server 3) The server prepare a global response (Boolean OR of all the responses) 4) The server, after a predetermined amount of time (timeout) or when all party members have sent the response or at the first GO response, send a notification "Global GO/NOGO" 4) The app get the global response and eventually ask the car to stop Would it work? Android App : minimum requirements for communication

Hi all, I kept working on my project and I have been optimizing the memory usage of the code that I wrote in the OVMS firware since last time. However I have reached the limit and I cannot simplify my code much more. As you said, Michael, the only thing that can solve the space issue for me now is to remove some unneeded code. On an other topic, I looked into the Android app, and I plan to implement a simple interface to call the commands that I added in the module's firmware. I think of removing most of the current GUI to keep only part of the settings dealing with the authentication, and then to add a new activity that fits my needs. There seem to be a few modules in the Android project that I will not need. So I prefer to start a new project and include only the needed code from the original app. I would be much obliged if you could give me some hints to get me going, in order to keep the minimum requirements for the app to manage its connection with the server and the car and be able to issue "MSG" commands. I think the server should have a role in this, mostly in the case that more than one device is "joined" to the same car. Let me explain a little more the scenario: Let's say there are 2 devices registered for the same car (a smartphone and a tablet) and one of them (my phone, for instance) is in the car with me while the tablet is on my desk at home. When car starts the phone make the right decision (car is properly used) while the tablet makes the wong one (car is probably stolen). How we can resolve this? All the solution I've taken into account are based upon "awareness" (each app should be aware of the others) and in this the server (or the communication protocol) has a role. Some alternativees: 1) each app knows the others position and the rule is "all app positions are incompatible with cvar position" (some privacy issuese) 2) the decision is a "party" one: Apps make local decision and communicate it to the others (and do nothing if at least one app is stating "OK") 3) there is a "master app" that is the only that makes the decision. As social aspect, would be nice to have more complex rules based on tuple <CarId, CarPosition, DeviceId, DevicePosition> (the scenario I suggested on Kids monitoring). Only one question now, Do OVMS module send a message when car is started (for Twizy is the GO position)? Hi, it's a bit that I'm using OVMS with my Twizy and I would like to share with you an idea I have. Can we use OVMS as an antitheft (or at least as an alarm)? That's the idea: OVMS (module, server, app) to decide if the car is "properly used" or "probably stolen" by means of car position AND device with mobile app position. Simple rule: If car is moving then send an alarm to the device if the the device position is not compatible with car position (Alarm can be changedc into stop the car, or whatever can be done by means of ovms module). Case of more than one device connected: All of devices positions are not compatible with the car position. There are more complex situations that can have "social aspects" (i.e. having an alarm if a device AND the car exit/enter a specific area). Brainstorming on this are welcome! Gianluca

Hi everybody, I am trying to use USSD Codes. But the App (Android 3.2.2) does not accept * and # but only numbers. How can I input *131# to recharge the Prepaid SIM-Card? Pierre Uhl
