Apologies for lack of progress - rather hectic at work, but over lunch I did a quick rebuild of ovms having noticed a little typo I introduced when adding the suggestion from Mark and Tom
With the fix battery level is now correctly reported.
This is my fully charged 2012 leaf (at around 246 GIDS +/- a few :-(

This is great news as it gives me confidence the unit/sw is working.

Regarding the cable (EV can bus). I have to do an order for some more OBDII cables. Is it worth making a batch wired for the EV can bus, and if so should they be left or right style?

Mark, Not being a hw expert, when you saw right or left, how do I know - what orientation is the socket in?
My leafdd connected such that the cable went backward (towards driver) in the car, my OBD extension (which I mistakenly took a photo of for you) went forward (away from driver). Close call, but I probably prefer the former.
As to EV vs CAR bus I'd definately find one useful to experiment. I think the Jury is still out - more exploration needed, though it's easier to pick much of the data from the EV CAN bus especially during charging (useful to monitor) but not all......

Some cars have the OBD-II connector "pointing" upwards, and some downwards:
[ WTF? They can standardise on a connector, but still can't decide which way up it should be? Good grief… ]
For clarity, for this discussion let's treat the OBD-II connector pointing downwards (smaller end at the bottom of the connector - first picture above). If your car has it the other way, please stand on your head while making comparisons.
Now, we have 2 types of connector:
A: Lefty: Left-side cable exit (with vehicle OBD-II connector pointing downwards):
B: Righty: Right-side cable exit (with vehicle OBDI-II connector pointing downwards):
The question is: which one is more suitable for the leaf? And, are the LHD and RHD leafs (leaves?) the same?

I was away in the US last week on business (and catching up this week) - did you order any OBD cables which would connect to the EV bus rather than the CAR bus? I'd be interested in trying if so. Since this is just experimentation, and I use a splitter the L/R direction doesn't matter to me. If not are these cables easy to specify as one-offs? where would one get one from?

Nigel,
No order yet. I'm waiting for the factory to finish specifying the cable (they are pedantic that way, and require a signed-off engineering diagram). It will be at least a few weeks before we can get the EV-bus cables.
I did try modifying one of our existing cables, but it was a bit of a mess. Being factory made, they are sealed plastic and not easy to take apart at all. It would probably be easier to wire one up from scratch.
