Richard, It is possible that both OnStar and the KeyFob use the same codes, bus and mechanism. But also possible that they use different mechanisms. In both cases the commands should be going from OnStar/KeyFob to the car systems. As OnStar is a separate module, rather than something tightly integrated with the alarm system, I am more hopeful that it will offer an 'instruction command style' (lock doors, unlock doors, start engine, stop engine, etc) interface to the car. So the reason to look at both is to (a) see if there are similarities in the data, (b) more chance that one is on the main can bus we are on, and (c) improve our chances of success. Btw if keyfob remote start works why not use this in ovms?. Why the need for onstar logs? Presumably European amperas have keyfob remote start. Getting onstar logs is interesting of course just wondering what I'm missing re remote start.
