Hi,
Are there any public archives of this mailinglist?
I don't know which software you are using, but if it's mailman, you could use pipermail to generate a HTML archive.
These archives could be crawled by search engines and make it easier when future users want to know something about it.
If any help with this is needed, let me know! If set this up multiple times.

Yes, I just did that. I put a link on the main www.openvehicles.com website, and also posted something to teslamotorsclub.
I tried 'seeding' it to google as well, but it remains to be seen if that ever does any good.

Any ideas how to speed up the pickup from google?
A google search for 'ovmsdev' now returns the mailing list, but searching for some of the terms in our discussions doesn't seem to bring this up.

It takes about 2 days from when I post something on my blog until I get a Google alert pointing it out. So I'd expect Google to start finding the mailing list content in a couple of days.
