Hey there....... I just wanted to pop in and give a quick wave... I've had my (leased) nissan leaf Gen.1 for 2 years and love it. I've got hold of a leafdd to keep a closer eye on battery level but am especially interested in OVMS for monitoring/recording data in near real time. I am aware there's no supported leaf support yet, though I do know some work was done. There's also been some work on the CAN bus(es) by the guy working on leafdd, and other projects over at mynissanleaf.com I'm a developer by background, even if my current job role is more around integration & architecture so there seemed to be a match here - has a leaf to try, interested in getting hands dirty with the code. So my plan is to get hold of some OVMS hardware, take a look through the code (I have done a git clone already), review this mailing list & see how I can contribute, specifically in terms of the leaf specific support. Nigel, Welcome aboard. We are currently _desperate_ for a Nissan Leaf developer. I can help, but I don't have the car and trial-and-error without that is proving impossible. The alternative (building a simulator) is possible (and I've done some work towards it), but just not enough free hours in the day. The current nissan leaf support module in OVMS is based on listening for data from the bus. We have recently built a polling-model into the vehicle.{h,c} base functionality, that could be simply extended for the Leaf's slightly unique OBDII PID polling style. Nikki, The car bus has the car stuff on it (speed, gear, etc). The ev stuff has the battery, pem, etc, on it (voltages, etc). They are bridged by one of the controllers sitting on both the buses, so we can poll the EV bus from the car bus, and vice versa. The community documentation is lousy, but the PIDs and various bus messages are now fairly well known. The LeafSpy and active-polling threads work certainly contain enough information for OVMS to work on the Leaf (at least for basic monitoring). I bought 2 OVMS kits... one for my Ampera and one for my 2011 Nissan Leaf. I set up the Ampera one and that os now operational with the installed version of the firmware but I haven't yet set up the Leaf. Now that Nigel is coming on board (Hi Nigel!), who I have met a few times now, perhaps between him and me we might start to make a bit of progress. I am rather busy with Plug in Britain at the moment so I can't promise to do much of the actual codong but I certainly can be someone local that can try stuff out on the Leaf and may be help a bit. Hi all, I'm currently waiting for some the hardware.(ovms, odb cable, gps antenna) It should arrive in the next few days to add to the pic 3 programmer, various obd cables, serial adapter I have here, a mobile SIM & I've also setup some fresh VMs for development & have partially setup git. More of this last item & mplabx/compiler to to be setup soon.
I am working this week but will try and squeeze in a little time to at least get the HW programmed with the current firmware & see what we have.
