I resolved this by swapping out the custom db9 adapter cable I have been using for the last several years. I buzzed it out on the bench and it seems to still have 12V, GND, and can high and low but somehow it doesn't work anymore. It's a bit puzzling as the cable I swapped in looks extremely similar... Here's a picture of what I took out. Craig
