Ten years ago today, two Tesla Roadster owners met up in Hong Kong and
decided to work on a small hobby project. Building on the foundational
work of a SMS-only telemetry project, we brought in the designer of
that to create what today has grown into OVMS; the Open Vehicle
Monitoring System.
OVMS has come so far since those early days, and that is thanks to our
community. We’ve grown to 3.5MB of firmware (up from the original
fitting in 64KB), with support for about two dozen vehicle types. Over
the years we have had 50 developers directly contribute to the
project, and currently another 150 or so indirectly helping out.
So, ten years later; happy birthday, OVMS. And a huge thank you to
everyone involved.
