I've released the code for SMS provisioning from www.openvehicles.com to the live site. The way this works is as follows:
We use a bulk SMS service to send/receive SMS messages, globally.
The My Account page on www.openvehicles.com now has the ability to enter a phone number against any of your vehicles. If entered, this is the phone number of the SIM card in the module.
A SMS Provisioning form is now provided (reached by the little icon on the My Vehicles page). That form allows the user to enter all the information necessary to provision the module.
If the user chooses firmware <= 1.3.5, then the provisioning mechanism will send a REGISTER sms message (to register the global sms provider as the owner), then PARAMS (to configure the module parameters), then optionally PASS (to change the module password, if requested). Each of these messages will result in an SMS reply from the module to the bulk sms service (more on this later).
If the user chooses firmware >= 1.3.6, then the provisioning mechanism will send a single AP sms message with all the provisioning parameters. There will normally be no reply to this message.
Should the module reply to any SMS messages from the bulk sms service (particularly in the case of firmware <= 1.3.5), then those will be delivered back to us and we will auto-deliver them via eMail to the registered owner.
This mechanism is really designed for those using the hassle-free global SIM card we've partnered with. Provisioning it with this mechanism should be very very simple.
Open Vehicles is swallowing the cost for these SMS messages. Hopefully it will not get out of hand, and we've got a paypal donate button up there for anybody that uses it and finds it useful.
Regards, Mark.
