Thanks Mark, but the error I have is connecting to the PicKit 3 in the first place -- ie just for the IPE/IDE to see the programming device itself - before even getting to executing the programming of OVMS ? So 12V wouldn't be relevant until that point?
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the MPLABX software with no effect, so I still can't figure out how to regain connectivity with the programmer on my main desktop. odd, very odd. This is currently using windows, v2.10
A little debug suggests it's a USB related issue. I'm using windows 8 and notice that the programmer is now showing up as "unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).
Umm..
I removed all the devices under the root hub - cleaned up the error - still didn't work
Then plugged into my monitor (which *may* be a powered hub) - found the pickit3 fine.
Umm, windows and the wonders of USB.. power related, but I think USB for the programmer itself, rather than just the power for the end device board
But at least it's not OVMS or the programmer... learning this stuff! Eventually may get around to looking through the leaf code (out tomorrow tho)
