Mark, thanks a ton for that info. We are now looking into sourcing the SIM808 and figuring out what circuitry needs to be changed. The first thing I notice is that the SIM808 module doesn't have the tiny uFL connectors for the antennae, so we'll add those to the board.

Arthur

I am told that production of SIM908 will stop in August (next month), as product will be discontinued by SIMCOM. Replacement is SIM808. That should be available at under US$10 in quantity. It is pretty much a drop-in replacement, but some circuit re-work is required if migrating SIM908->SIM808.

As 2G is being phased out, particularly in USA, these units are becoming less popular and easier to get a hold of. New products are based on 3G/4G modules (but more hassle as even quad band wont give global coverage). However, we think the SIM908 will become very short in supply very soon.

One of my co-workers says she found a supplier offering the SIM908 for $11.50 for qty 225. Ideally looking for something under $10/ea.
