David,<br>
<br>
the OVMS is widely used by normal end users, these all buy the
standard hardware, and so do most of us.<br>
<br>
Mark Webb-Johnson, the creator of the original design, takes care of
producing OVMS modules in Hong Kong. These can be bought from the
distributors linked here:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://github.com/openvehicles/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3?tab=readme-ov-file#links">https://github.com/openvehicles/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3?tab=readme-ov-file#links</a><br>
<br>
There's now also, thanks to the work of Christian Zeitnitz, an
alternative for developers in using the Lilygo T-Call series:<br>
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://github.com/zbchristian/OVMS-Lilygo-based-Module">https://github.com/zbchristian/OVMS-Lilygo-based-Module</a><br>
<br>
The Lilygo based modules are less capable and don't have an FCC/CE
approval, but include everything necessary to actually be used in a
vehicle.<br>
<br>
To just run the software, mostly any ESP32 WROVER development board
will do. You'll need to reconfigure the build to exclude all OVMS
hardware extensions, and of course you won't be able to just connect
the board to a car, as the transceivers are missing, but you can
take first steps in learning how the system works. You can simulate
receiving CAN frames through the "can … rx" command.<br>
<br>
Regards,<br>
Michael<br>

Thanks for the welcome, I have actually done my reading homework

<div>Welcome, David :-)<br>
<br>
Don't hesitate to ask when you encounter questions,
documentation is -- as usual ;-) -- far from optimal, even for
central framework concepts. But the code is pretty clear and
readable.<br>
<br>
Contributions are of course welcome on all levels.<br>
<br>
Kind regards,<br>
Michael<br>
