Geir,

I also have a very poor GPS signal even with the expensive passive antenna, the final module really needs to support active ones.

There's also a slight chance your pigtail cable is broken. That has been an issue on some chinese RC transmitters recently, but I don't think that's the issue
with your GPS, just a poor antenna.

The satellite count and GPS / GLONASS lock state are transferred into the vehicle position metrics:

OVMS > metrics list v.p.
v.p.altitude                             318.4m
v.p.direction                            0°
v.p.gpshdop                              2.2
v.p.gpslock                              yes
*v.p.gpsmode                              AN*
v.p.gpsspeed                             0Kph
v.p.latitude                             51.3022
v.p.longitude                            7.38984
v.p.odometer                             0Km
*v.p.satcount                             4*
v.p.speed                                0Kph
v.p.trip                                 0Km

The "gpsmode" is…

    //  <Mode>: first char = GPS, second = GLONASS;
    //    N = No fix
    //    A = Autonomous mode (non differential)
    //    D = Differential mode
    //    E = Estimation mode

To see your raw NMEA sentences, enable the verbose logging:

OVMS > level verbose gsm-nmea

…right after init:

V (713279) gsm-nmea: IncomingLine: $GNGNS,,,,,,NN,,,,,,*53
V (713279) gsm-nmea: IncomingLine: $GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53

…after receiving a time signal:

V (770279) gsm-nmea: IncomingLine: $GNGNS,214635.9,,,,,NN,,,,,,*43
V (770279) gsm-nmea: IncomingLine: $GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53

…after getting the first satellites:

V (796339) gsm-nmea: IncomingLine: $GNGNS,214702.0,5118.133354,N,00723.390298,E,*AN*,*04*,2.2,318.4,47.0,,*6D
V (796339) gsm-nmea: IncomingLine: $GPRMC,214702.0,A,5118.133354,N,00723.390298,E,,,060118,,,A*63

Michael
