I also have a very poor GPS signal even with the expensive passive antenna, the final module really needs to support active ones.

There's also a slight chance your pigtail cable is broken. That has been an issue on some chinese RC transmitters recently, but I don't think that's the issue
with your GPS, just a poor antenna.

The satellite count and GPS / GLONASS lock state are transferred into the vehicle position metrics:

To see your raw NMEA sentences, enable the verbose logging:
