I somehow missed this three-year-old paragraph.
Linux would add a lot of unnecessary overhead, but I assume you're already aware of this.
p.s. I've done some bare-metal and MQX development on the FRDM-K64F platform, but wasn't around (as a consultant) when the product shipped. KDS works as well as any Eclipse system - the question is how support has changed since NXP acquired Freescale. Things could actually have improved, but I've been out of those circles since shortly after the change.
