I agree,too. It's totally worth the $10 even if the SIM card is never used.

I would only have concerns if USSD with one particular M2M provider is the only option you have. And it is not that the current setting is unreliable, in fact once it is setup correctly it is very reliable. So anybody can choose the tradeoff of a one time more complex setup for less monthly operational cost.
