[TeslaHK - Models] Establishment of Charged Hong Kong

I've been running the teslaclub.hk mailing lists for four years now, but things here have become increasingly quiet and the events few and far between.

By comparison, the number of EVs now on the streets of Hong Kong has exploded. Compared to a year ago, there are today at least four times the number of EVs registered. In the last six months of 2014, EVs took approximately 6% of the private car market here, and more EVs were sold in one single month of December 2014 than the total on the street in January 2014.

With the renewal of the First Registration Tax exemption for three more years, and removal of the requirement for Expressway Permits, we've gone from approximately 40 roadsters to hundreds of BMW i3 & i8, more than a thousand Tesla Model S, and recent launches of the eGolf amongst others.

We are clearly at a tipping point for EVs in Hong Kong.

On 25th January 2015, myself along with a group of like-minded enthusiasts, formally established Charged Hong Kong at an event attended by 70 owners and enthusiasts at the Gold Coast. This is an organization dedicated to supporting and accelerating the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles in Hong Kong. Charged Hong Kong will bring together EV owners and enthusiasts in Hong Kong to discuss and exchange ideas on promoting the use of EVs to replace conventional vehicles with internal combustion engines. The organization serves to represent the collective views of EV owners to manufacturers, charging networks, the press, and the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Charged Hong Kong is registered as a local society (#54000) and not-for-profit business, and has applied for Chapter 88 Charitable Status.

Any member of the public may join free of charge as an Associate Member, which entitles him/her to newsletters and other communications.  An Ordinary Member is entitled to vote and preferential pricing at events.  A limited number of Founder Memberships will be offered, entitling members to priority in registration and seating at events.

For Tesla Motors enthusiasts here, the former Tesla Club Hong Kong has been setup as a Special Interest Group under the Charged.HK organisation. A local Tesla Model S owner, Locky Law, has been elected representative on the committee for that group. We hope that many Hong Kong Roadster and Model S owners and enthusiasts will join us in electrifying transportation in Hong Kong.
